Mini Block Push Pull EL84 6BQ5 Valve Amplifiers

It has been a while since I did anything really crazy in DIY and had it work out far above my expectations. Such is the case for the Mini Blocks. I had a lot of extra parts lying around (really a huge amount of them) and tried to figure out what I could build. Two small chassis about 5 inches by 9 inches by 2 inches (12.5 X 22.5 X 5 cm) were just begging for a project. They are just the right size for lots of things. I first thought of a pair of SET amps. But since I didn’t have any suitable single ended output transformers I nixed that idea. A preamp perhaps could be built on one of the chassis. Since I have many preamplifiers now that didn’t really get the nod either. A pair of small push-pull amplifiers was next on the list. Maybe, but I have so many amps now that it doesn’t make sense either. Since this hobby doesn’t always have to make sense, that is what I built. [ ]

Mini Audio Amplifier circuit

Apple is allegedly sending out invites to the media for a special launch event next Wednesday, leading to the inevitable conclusion that it will be revealing the awaited iPad Mini. It has long been rumoured that the consumer electronics giant will be releasing a miniature version of itsnew iPadthis year, in response to a string of new and upcoming launches, including the Barnes and Noble tablet and Amazon Kindle Fire 2, which is expected to come equipped with a 8.9-inch screen, or the paradigm-changing Google / Asus Nexus 7. It was originally believed that Apple would launch the slate alongside its sixth-generation smartphone last month, but the device failed to make an appearance. Even robot systems occasionally need a negative supply voltage for some purpose or other, and in this kind of application in particular there is a need for an effective circuit that does not make greater demands then necessary in terms of current or space. If a low current 5 V supply is needed and only +5 V is available, a natural manufacturer to turn to is Maxim, and indeed in this case they do not let us down.The best known integrated circuit made by this company is the MAX232, a level shifter for serial ports with an integrated charge pump that does not need an external inductor.  Along the same lines, although with a more stable output voltage and higher efficiency, is the MAX660. The device can ‘mirror’ any input voltage between 1.5 V and 5.5 V. With a 5 V input the output is typically –4.7 V with a load of 100 mA.
